Cubs Bang Out 9-2 Win Versus St. Louis
Spirited fans at Busch Stadium greeted the St. Louis Cardinals for their clash with the Chicago Cubs.

Chicago starter Mike Hampton kept the St. Louis hitters in check, while his team cruised to a 9-2 win. The Cardinals fall to 11-16 and continue their uninspiring start to the 1997 season.

Chicago relied on the hitting of Luis Gonzalez to pick up the win. The designated hitter ripped a run-scoring triple in the top of the first inning to put the Cubs on top, 1-0. For the game, Gonzalez had 1 triple and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Gonzalez told the Chicago Daily.
