The Spokane River Rats moved to within one game of the League Championship Series today, downing the visiting Naperville Lazy Fisherman at Foxes Ballpark by a score of 3-1. River Rats right-hander Rick Helling was named player of the game after a strong outing in which he threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball. The win gives the River Rats a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-5 Division Series.

Helling was effective for Spokane, seldom allowing the Lazy Fisherman to square up a pitch. The right-hander tossed 111 pitches over 7 innings. He limited Naperville to just 1 run on 5 hits.

Helling said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
