Multi-HR Day for Palmeiro as Senators Overpower Tigers, 7-4
|
Benefiting from Rafael Palmeiro's productive game, the Washington Senators downed the Detroit Tigers, 7-4. Palmeiro hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 5 for the Senators. Jamie Moyer earned the win for Washington. He lasted 8.1 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 8 hits, while striking out 6. With the win, he raised his record to 1-1. Tim Burke finished the game for Washington and earned his 1st save.
Palmeiro contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Washington in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 4-2, Palmeiro took a fastball from Scott Garrelts and stroked the home run to left-center. His 7th home run of the season allowed the Senators to leap in front, 5-4.
"I felt good up there," said Palmeiro. "I saw the ball well."
The Senators, now 8-19, have not found much traction so far in 1994.
