The Cincinnati Reds powered past the hometown Kansas City Royals, 9-1, in the opener of the Division Series at Royals Stadium today. Cincinnati starting pitcher Mike Mussina threw 9 innings of 5-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Reds now lead the series 1-0.

Mussina pitched a complete game for Cincinnati. The right-hander was charged with 1 run on 5 hits. He struck out 11 during his 138-pitch performance.

"It feels good to get this one," Mussina told the Cincinnati News.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Royals Stadium. The scheduled starters for the game are Danny Jackson for Cincinnati and Denny Neagle for Kansas City.
