Tiger Stadium was the site of a competitive game between the Detroit Tigers and Montreal Expos.

The Expos grabbed a win, 5-3, at Tiger Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Detroit pitcher Vaughn Eshelman. Eshelman went 7 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Ed Correa closed the game out for Montreal, earning his 3rd save.

With two out in the top of the eighth, Gregg Jefferies lit into a fastball from Danny Graves for a 2-run home run. That made the score 4-3 in favor of the Expos. For the day, Jefferies went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

"We'll enjoy this win," said Jefferies. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."

The Expos, now 18-9, have played some good baseball in the early going.
