Downs Ks 12, Creams Top Royals on Walk-off to Cut Deficit to 2-1
|
The Milwaukee Creams nearly wasted a strong game from starter Kelly Downs, but were saved by some timely hitting in a 9th inning walk-off win over the Kansas City Royals today.
Downs was named player of the game in the 3-2 win at Milwaukee County Stadium, after he threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball. The win allowed Milwaukee to cut the Kansas City lead in the best-of-7 series to 1-2.
In the bottom of the ninth, with Milwaukee trailing 2-1, Damian Miller hit a fastball from Justin Thompson for a 2-run double, giving the Creams the lead, 3-2.
"Kelly was throwing free and easy," said Milwaukee manager Sean Norman.
Game 4 is scheduled for tomorrow at Milwaukee County Stadium in Milwaukee. The scheduled starters for the game are Bobby J. Jones for the Kansas City Royals and Wally Whitehurst for the the Milwaukee Creams.
