Home Loss Shrinks Reds' Series Lead to 2-1
The Kansas City Royals have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Cincinnati Reds, winning 5-3 at Riverfront Stadium today. Royals left-hander Rheal Cormier was named player of the game after he threw 8 innings of 7-hit ball. The win cuts the deficit facing the Royals to 2-1 in the best-of-7 Division Series.

It could have been a different outcome for Kansas City, had it not been for Jim Thome, the five-time All-Star . Thome contributed a run-scoring triple in the top of the third inning to put Kansas City up, 3-1.

"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Cormier.

Game 4 is set to be played tomorrow at Riverfront Stadium. The scheduled starters for the game are Bobby J. Jones for the Kansas City Royals and Joey Hamilton for the the Cincinnati Reds.
