Cincinnati Wins at Home to Take 3-2 Lead in DS
Kansas City had no answer for Cincinnati starter Mike Mussina, who flummoxed Royals hitters as the Reds cruised to a 5-1 victory in Game 5 of the Division Series today. The Reds now hold a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-7 series, thanks in large part to the right-handed Mussina, who controlled Kansas City throughout the contest and threw 9 innings of 4-hit ball.

Mussina pitched a complete game for Cincinnati. The 27-year-old right-hander was charged with 1 run on 4 hits. He struck out 5 during his 111-pitch performance.

"Mike's tempo and rhythm were good," said Reds manager Eric Deutsch. "He was the key to us winning."

The next game is set to be played Tuesday. The scheduled starters for the game are Jim Abbott for the Cincinnati Reds and Denny Neagle for the the Kansas City Royals.
