Florida Takes Series Lead in Low-Scoring Affair
|
The Florida Marlins powered past the hometown Cincinnati Reds, 3-1, in the opener of the Division Series at Riverfront Stadium today. Florida starting pitcher Kevin Appier threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Marlins now lead the series 1-0.
Appier gave Florida a solid start. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 4 hits over 8 innings.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Appier said after the game.
Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow in Cincinnati. Slated to start are Butch Henry for the Florida Marlins and Jose Rijo for the the Cincinnati Reds.
