Home Loss Shrinks Cardinals' Series Lead to 2-1
|
Already down in the Division Series, the Florida Marlins put on their best show, beating the St. Louis Cardinals by a final score of 5-2 today. Butch Henry earned player of the game honors, as he threw 8 innings of 6-hit ball. Florida now trails St. Louis 2-1 in the best-of-7 affair.
Florida relied on the hitting of Matt Williams to pick up the win. The third baseman ripped a bases-clearing triple in the top of the 12th inning to put the Marlins on top, 5-2. For the game, Williams had 1 triple and 1 single in 6 at-bats.
"Big win," said Henry.
Game 4 is scheduled for tomorrow at Busch Stadium. The scheduled starters for the game are Al Leiter for Florida and Rene Arocha for St. Louis.
