Home Field Advantage: Karl, Arizona Open Division Series with Win
Scott Karl and the Arizona Diamondbacks opened the Division Series in brilliant fashion today, shutting out the visiting Montreal Expos at Bank One Ballpark 6-0 and securing an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Karl, the Diamondbacks left-hander, was named player of the game as he threw 7 innings of shutout ball.

Karl tossed 124 pitches over 7 innings to clinch the win for the Diamondbacks. The left-hander allowed just 5 hits, while racking up 8 strikeouts in the game.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Karl told the Arizona Observer.

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow. The scheduled starters for the game are Roger Clemens for Montreal and Floyd Youmans for Arizona.
