Diamondbacks Need Extras to Top Expos, Lead 3-2 in Series
When the games really matter, the Arizona Diamondbacks put on their best show, beating the Montreal Expos by a final score of 2-1 today. Scott Karl earned player of the game honors, as he threw 9 innings of 4-hit ball. Arizona now leads Montreal 3-2 in the best-of-7 affair.

Though he didn't earn the victory, Karl kept his team in the game until the bullpen took over and the Arizona offense came through. Over 9 innings, he allowed 4 hits and 1 run, while striking out 10.

"We had a chance to win," said Montreal manager David Polakoff, "but we didn't get it done."

The next game is set to be played Tuesday, October 8th, 1996 in Phoenix. Slated to start are Roger Clemens for Montreal and Scott Sanders for Arizona.
