Benefiting from an exceptional performance from Melvin Nieves, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Seattle Pilots, 4-3. Nieves belted 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice for the Dodgers. Roger Clemens, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 3 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 7. His record now stands at 3-1. Earning his 4th save of the year was Jerry DiPoto.

Los Angeles relied on the hitting of Shawn Green to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Dodgers on top, 4-3. For the game, Green had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"It was sure nice to get the win but there's a lot of baseball left," Green after the game.

The win brings the Dodgers to 9-18, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
