5 Straight Wins for Athletics
|
The Oakland Athletics got a magnificent performance from pitcher John Mitchell, who stifled the Seattle offense en route to a 3-0 Athletics win at Oakland Coliseum. Mitchell, now 2-3, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 2, walking 3, and allowing no earned runs. Jason Bere picked up the save, his 3rd.
Geronimo Pena put Oakland in front, 3-0, when he took Alex Fernandez downtown. His 2-run home run came with two out in the bottom of the sixth. It was his 8th home run of the season.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Oakland manager Jim B.
The Pilots, now 10-17, continue their sluggish start.
