Diamondbacks Get Past Senators 6-3 to Open CS
The Arizona Diamondbacks started the League Championship in style today, winning on the road against the Washington Senators at RFK Stadium by a score of 6-3 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Diamondbacks left-hander Scott Karl was named player of the game after he threw 8 innings of 5-hit ball.

Arizona took the lead with no one out in the top of the third when Mike Bordick stroked a solo home run. That made the score 1-0 in favor of Arizona. For the day, Bordick went 1 for 3 with a home run.

Bordick said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."

Game 2 is scheduled for tomorrow at RFK Stadium in Washington. The scheduled starters for the game are Scott Sanders for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Andy Pettitte for the the Washington Senators.
