Baerga, Diamondbacks Sink Senators Again in Game 2
|
Riding the 2-hit performance of first baseman Carlos Baerga, the Arizona Diamondbacks got a road win against the Washington Senators, 8-4, in Game 2 of the League Championship today. Baerga went 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 for the Diamondbacks, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2 games to 0.
Arizona used the timely hitting of Mike Bordick to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Diamondbacks on top, 6-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Bordick.
The next game is scheduled for Monday at Bank One Ballpark. Slated to start are Erik Hanson for Washington and Chuck Ricci for Arizona.
