Pirates Bang Out 7-3 Win Versus New York
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates relied on the hitting of catcher Charles Johnson to stop the New York Yankees, 7-3. For the game, Johnson was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. The Yankees fall to 13-14 and continue their uneasy start to the 1995 season.
It could have been a different outcome for Pittsburgh, had it not been for Tony Gwynn, the top prospect . Gwynn contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the second inning to put Pittsburgh up, 1-0.
Johnson told a Pittsburgh Today reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
