Padres Come Up Short at San Francisco
The San Francisco Giants did just enough to secure a 4-3 victory over the San Diego Padres at Candlestick Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Scott Sanders, who captured player of the game honors. Sanders, the winner, moves to 3-1. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 2 walks. Randy Myers closed the game out for San Francisco, earning his 4th save.

Steve Finley had a nice at-bat for the Giants with one out in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded, the center fielder grounded out, driving in 1 run, which would prove important in the San Francisco win.

San Diego manager said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.

The Giants raised their record to 21-6.
