Pirates Slip Past New York, 2-1
|
Pittsburgh Pirates starter Chris Nabholz turned in a sterling performance against the New York Yankees, leading his team to a slim 2-1 win. Nabholz got the win, improving to 4-0. He allowed 6 hits and walked 3 over 8 innings. Nabholz allowed 1 earned run. Pittsburgh, now 17-11, has gotten their season off to a good start.
Pittsburgh used the bat of Ed Taubensee to get the win. The designated hitter hammered a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Pirates ahead, 2-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"That's the key at this level, throwing strike one," said Nabholz. "Successful pitchers do it."
