Rangers Win at Chicago, 7-4
|
The Texas Rangers beat the Chicago White Sox, 7-4, at Comiskey Park. The Rangers got a fine performance from center fielder Rich Becker, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Jason Bere earned the win for Texas. He lasted 7 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 9 hits, while striking out 8. With the win, he raised his record to 1-3. Jeff Calhoun recorded his 5th save for Texas.
With two out in the top of the third, Chipper Jones drilled a 2-run home run to right. It put Texas ahead, 4-2. For the game, Jones went 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"Rich is still learning," said Rangers manager Sean Norman. "The sky's the limit for him."
Texas, now 9-20, is off to a slow start.
