Multi-HR Game for Valentin in 8-4 Win
|
The Orlando Devil Rays topped the New York Yankees by the score of 8-4, with the biggest share of the credit going to third baseman Jose Valentin. Valentin belted 2 home runs, while adding 6 RBI and scoring twice for the Devil Rays on the day. Alan Benes got credit for the win, improving to 2-0. He allowed 4 runs on 5 hits in 7 innings. The Devil Rays bumped their record to 76-63 with this latest triumph.
Valentin contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Orlando in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Valentin took a fastball from Brian Bohanon and stroked the home run to left. His 26th home run of the season allowed the Devil Rays to leap in front, 3-1.
"I was able to barrel up some pitches," said Valentin.
