Cardinals Lose to Cubs, 7-2
|
Phil Plantier left his imprint on the 7-2 Chicago win against the St. Louis Cardinals. Plantier, who finished 5th in the FL in slugging percentage with .561 in 1995, went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Chicago reliever Mike Schooler picked up the win, upping his record to 5-6. Gil Heredia took the loss. With the win, Chicago goes to 61-79, while the Cardinals fall to 70-69.
Derek Bell put Chicago in front, 5-2, when he took Gil Heredia downtown. His 2-run home run came with two out in the bottom of the fifth. It was his 8th home run of the season.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Chicago manager Anthony Perez.
