Rockies Edge Past Giants, 4-3
|
Colorado Rockies starter Al Leiter was definitely locked-in. He led his team to a win over the San Francisco Giants, 4-3. Leiter got the win, improving to 8-10. He allowed 7 hits and walked 1 over 7.1 innings. Leiter allowed 3 earned runs. The second-place Rockies now have a 4-game winning streak.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Bob Hamelin came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing San Francisco pitcher Mark Dewey, he hit a full count changeup for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Colorado on top, 4-3.
"This was a good win for us," said Leiter. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
