Yankees Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Red Sox
|
The New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox, 5-4 at Fenway Park, in part due to designated hitter Ryan Thompson, who nabbed player of the game honors. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Even with the win, the Yankees have a dismal 34-106 record.
It could have been a different outcome for New York, had it not been for Quinton McCracken, the 26-year old left fielder . McCracken contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put New York up, 5-4.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Yankees manager Patrick McQuail. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
