Mets Stymie Toronto, Take 2-1 Win
|
In a low-scoring clash between New York and Toronto, pitcher Tom Glavine was a difference-maker. The left-hander earned player of the game honors for New York in the 2-1 win. Darren Holmes was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 17 of 20 save opportunities. The Mets bumped their record to 80-63 with this latest triumph.
New York shortstop Gary Sheffield had a key at-bat for the Mets in the bottom of the third inning. Facing Toronto pitcher Hipolito Pichardo, Sheffield hit a run-scoring single to make the score 2-1, New York. For the day, he went 1-3.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Glavine told the New York Chronicle.
