The Montreal Expos beat the Detroit Tigers, 6-4, at Tiger Stadium. The win was largely due to the efforts of first baseman Matt Williams, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk, while adding 4 RBI. Ed Correa notched his 24th save in 31 chances. The first-place Expos now have a 4-game winning streak.

Williams in the top of the fourth had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and the Expos leading 3-2, he hit a 2-run single.

"If it's down the middle," said Williams, "you might as well hit it."
