Fine Effort by Davis Not Enough in 4-3 Reds Loss
|
Cincinnati center fielder Eric Davis had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Davis was 2-2 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice, even as Orlando beat the Reds, 4-3. Davis was named the player of the game despite the loss. Rod Beck earned his 26th save in 30 chances. The Sun Rays, at 82-60, have now won 10 straight.
Jeff Bagwell's at-bat in the bottom of the eighth was significant, coming with a runner on 1st and the game tied, 3-3. The Orlando designated hitter hit a run-scoring double off Mike Mussina to put the Sun Rays up.
"It's great to be on a roll," said Bagwell.
