The Boston Red Sox downed the Florida Marlins, 8-7, at Joe Robbie Stadium. The Red Sox were led by Akira Eto, who captured player of the game honors. He slugged 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. The winner was Boston reliever Rosario Rodriguez, now 4-1. The loser was Bryan Harvey. A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the tenth, with the game tied, Mike Blowers was at the plate when Boston scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Red Sox to go in front, 8-7.

"The name of the game is scoring runs," Eto said. "We did a good job of that today."

The Red Sox now own a record of 55-88.
