The New York Mets beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 13-5, at Shea Stadium. Cliff Floyd was recognized as player of the game for his performance. He was 3 for 6 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. The two-time All-Star was a menace to Toronto all day. New York reliever Paul Abbott picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Frank Wills took the loss. The Mets raised their record to 81-63.

The Mets got a big at-bat from third baseman Phil Nevin. For the game, Nevin went 2-5 with a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. In the bottom of the seventh, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 16th double of the season gave New York a 7-5 lead.

"The boys came out and just played their butts off," said New York manager Michael Kritikos.
