The Kansas City Royals stopped the St. Louis Cardinals, 5-1, at Royals Stadium. The Royals got a big game from Jim Thome, who went 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Bobby J. Jones got the win, improving to 12-12. The Royals beat the Cardinals with some clutch hitting. The triple by Jeromy Burnitz in the bottom of the first is a good example. With two down, Burnitz gave his team the lead, 2-0, when he came through with the big hit.
