Loss Extends Minnesota Losing Streak
|
Benefiting from Brent Mayne's productive game, the St. Louis Cardinals downed the Minnesota Twins, 7-3. Mayne went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 3 times for the Cardinals. The last-place Twins have lost 6 straight games.
Tim Raines was 1 for 4 with a walk, while adding 2 RBI for St. Louis. With two out and the game tied in the bottom of the fifth inning, Raines, who finished 2nd in the FL in runs with 120 in 1979, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Minnesota hurler Ben Rivera, he hit a run-scoring single to give the Cardinals a 3-2 lead.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Raines said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
