Blue Jays Prove Rude Guests, Win 4-1 at Baltimore
|
Toronto used a superb performance from starting pitcher Scott Garrelts to down the Baltimore Orioles, 4-1. Garrelts, the winner, moves to 3-0. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 2 walks. The third-place Blue Jays raised their record to 84-60.
Toronto used the timely hitting of Mark McGwire to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put the Blue Jays on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Baltimore skipper Daniel Ward, "and it cost us."
