Rockies Top Athletics in Extras
|
The Colorado Rockies went home winners at Oakland Coliseum, thanks in large part to starter Jason Schmidt. Schmidt silenced the Oakland Athletics, enabling Colorado to grab the 3-1 win. The Rockies go to 59-85, putting them 5th in the United League West Division.
Cecil Espy made it 2-1 in favor of Colorado when he delivered a run-scoring single. It came with two out in the top of the tenth. The Rockies went on to win.
During his postgame press conference, Rockies manager JD Morris told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
