Spiders Jolt Yankees with Late Rally
|
The Cleveland Spiders defeated the New York Yankees, 4-3, in Federal League action at League Park, with Cleveland pitcher Bret Saberhagen named player of the game. Cleveland reliever Mark Wohlers picked up the win to move to 5-12. Doug Simons suffered the loss. The Yankees, now 35-110, have lost 4 straight.
Darryl Strawberry provided some late-game heroics for Cleveland. In the bottom of the ninth inning, he hit a solo home run. It came on a 1-2 curveball from Doug Simons and propelled Cleveland to a 4-3 lead.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Saberhagen said.
