Royals Win in Extras
The Kansas City Royals picked up a win at Busch Stadium, knocking off the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-4. Starting pitcher Bobby J. Jones, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Kansas City reliever Gregg Olson picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. Derek Lilliquist absorbed the loss. Justin Thompson was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 5 of 5 save opportunities.

Richard Hidalgo broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the 12th with a 2-run home run. It put the Royals in front, 6-4. For the game, Hidalgo was 2-5 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Hidalgo.

The first-place Royals, at 87-58, now lead their division by 5½ games.
