White Sox Turn Back Cubs, 3-1
|
Chicago White Sox starter Scott Bankhead was in a rhythm all game. He led his team to a win over the Chicago Cubs, 3-1. Jeff E. Gray was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 10 of 12 save opportunities. Chicago, at 65-81, occupies last place in the Federal League Central Division.
The White Sox got a big at-bat from right fielder Marty Cordova. For the game, Cordova went 1 for 2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 70th hit of the season gave Chicago a 1-0 lead.
"We take it day by day here," said Cordova, "and today was a good one for us."
