Tigers Stumble, Lose to Senators
The Washington Senators racked up a win at Tiger Stadium, bumping off the Detroit Tigers, 9-1. Andy Pettitte, who started for Washington, pitched effectively for his team. The second-place Senators have won 4 straight.

In the top of the first, Alex Rodriguez ambushed a full count sinker from Vaughn Eshelman and hit a 3-run home run. It gave Washington a quick 3-0 lead.

"We'll savor this win," Rodriguez told the Washington Herald, "then get ready for the next game."
