The Toronto Blue Jays overcame a good performance by Seattle right fielder Jermaine Dye to knock off Seattle, 9-4, at SkyDome. Dye was 2-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Toronto starter John Smiley was credited with the win after throwing 99 pitches over 7.2 innings. His record now stands at 9-11. The Blue Jays now own a record of 86-61.

In the bottom of the first, Dan Pasqua hit a 2-run single for Toronto. The 29th hit of the season for the Toronto left fielder put the Blue Jays on top, 2-0.

Pasqua said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
