Extra-Inning Win by Cubs over Sun Rays
|
The Cubs faced a stiff challenge from Orlando pitcher Andy Benes, but persevered to claim a win at Orlando Citrus Bowl. The final score was 3-1. Benes went 9 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Chicago reliever Frank DiPino got the win, raising his record to 5-2. Rod Beck was tagged with the loss. Doug Jones got the save, his 39th in 43 chances.
Chicago used the bat of Mark Grace to get the win. The first baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Cubs ahead, 3-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"I'm glad this one's going in the books as a 'W'," Grace said.
Today's win puts Chicago at 86-62, while Orlando falls to 85-63.
