Yankees Hold Off Knights, 1-0
|
The New York Yankees faced a tough opponent in Charlotte pitcher Erik Hanson, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Yankee Stadium by a final score of 1-0. Hanson went 6 innings and allowed 1 earned run. The winner was New York reliever Greg Hibbard, now 5-10. The loser was Erik Hanson. Mike Henneman earned his 15th save in 19 chances.
In the bottom of the fifth, New York right fielder Bobby Abreu had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 2nd and one out, Abreu stroked a run-scoring double to right-center. It made the score 1-0, New York. For the game, he was 1-4 with a double.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Abreu said after the game.
Even with the win, the Yankees have a dismal 50-98 record.
