Reds Fall Short, 11-10, at St. Louis
|
Cincinnati left fielder Bobby Higginson had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 11-10, to St. Louis at Busch Stadium. Higginson was 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4. St. Louis reliever Francisco Cordova picked up the win to move to 8-7. Jim Abbott suffered the loss. St. Louis now owns a record of 75-73.
The Cardinals used some clutch hitting to beat the Reds, a good example being the at-bat of John Valentin in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, Valentin gave his team the lead, 8-6, when he hit a 2-run single.
Cincinnati manager Eric Deutsch said he was disappointed with the loss. "Whenever you score that many runs, you expect to win the game."
