Athletics Get Past Detroit for 5-4 Win
The Oakland Athletics picked up a win at Oakland Coliseum, knocking off the Detroit Tigers, 5-4. Starting pitcher Bobby M Jones, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. The Tigers fall to 11-18 and continue their uneven start to the 1997 season.

Oakland took a 5-4 lead on Benito Santiago's 12th hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Santiago hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Detroit pitcher Steve J Kline shaking his head.

"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Santiago said.
