Avery Now 11-12 After Subduing Athletics

Baltimore starter Steve Avery had a strong outing against the Oakland Athletics at Memorial Stadium. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 3-1 win. Roger McDowell got the save, his 24th in 30 chances. The Orioles raised their record to 59-89.
Avery, the winner, is now 11-12 after putting the clamps on the Oakland offense. In 8 innings of work, he gave up no earned runs on 3 hits, while collecting 6 Ks.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Baltimore manager Daniel Ward said.
