New York Mets starter Takehiro Ishii turned in an exceptional performance against the Oakland Athletics at Oakland Coliseum, resulting in a New York win, 9-1. The winning pitcher was Ishii, now 11-6. He tossed 6.2 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 11. The 4th-place Mets lifted their record to 83-66.

It could have been a different outcome for New York, had it not been for Phil Nevin, the former first round draft pick . Nevin contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the first inning to put New York up, 1-0.

"We were firing on all cylinders today," said Mets manager Michael Kritikos.
