The New York Yankees got a stellar effort from pitcher Mark Langston, helping New York score a 5-2 win over the visiting Charlotte Knights. Langston got the win, improving to 4-3. He allowed 2 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. Langston allowed 2 earned runs. Mike Henneman was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 16 of 20 save opportunities.
Contributing to the New York win was Bobby Abreu. In the bottom of the seventh, the former first round draft pick had a 2-run home run. That made the score 3-2, the Yankees in front.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Abreu told the New York Chronicle. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
Even with the win, the Yankees have a dismal 51-98 record.
