Benefiting from an exceptional performance from Ken Griffey Jr., the Seattle Pilots defeated the New York Mets, 8-6. Griffey Jr. went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Pilots. The second-place Pilots are now 80-70, the Mets 84-67.

Griffey Jr. put Seattle up, 5-4, when he hit a 3-run home run off Frank Castillo in the top of the fifth. His 62nd home run of the season helped the Pilots capture the win.

"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Griffey Jr. said after the game.
