Diamondbacks Score Late, Upend Orioles, 6-5
Memorial Stadium was the site of an exciting ballgame between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Baltimore Orioles.

The Arizona Diamondbacks managed to get by the Baltimore Orioles, 6-5, at Memorial Stadium. Arizona left fielder Chad Curtis took player of the game honors. Arizona reliever David West picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. Julian Tavarez was collared with the loss. Danny Patterson was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 36 of 42 save opportunities.

Had Tony Gwynn not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Gwynn hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Diamondbacks.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Gwynn told the Arizona Observer. "It's as simple as that."

Arizona improves to 87-63 with the win. They lead their division by 7½ games.
