Yankees Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Creams
|
Milwaukee third baseman Chipper Jones had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 8-7, to New York at Yankee Stadium. Jones was 1-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. The win was credited to Mike Henneman in relief. His record improves to 6-8. Rob Murphy took the loss. New York has a 4-game win streak, while Milwaukee has lost 3 in a row.
Had Mike Gallego not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 1st, Gallego hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 8-7, in favor of the Yankees.
"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Gallego.
