Royals Rally to Eke Out Win
|
Cincinnati got a terrific performance from pitcher Jose Rijo, but it wasn't enough to beat the Kansas City Royals. Kansas City won the Riverfront Stadium contest, 4-3. Rijo was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings of 5-hit ball. Dave Veres, credited with the save, is now 2 for 2 in save opportunities. The Royals bumped their record to 117-34 with this latest triumph.
Kansas City needed the clutch hitting of Ray Lankford to notch the win. The center fielder hammered a solo home run in the top of the 13th inning to put the Royals on top, 4-3. For the game, Lankford had 1 home run and 1 single in 6 at-bats.
"Our guys just had that look of determination," said winning manager Daniel Drucker.
