Devil Rays Jolt Cardinals with Late Rally
|
The St. Louis Cardinals and Orlando Devil Rays cranked it up at Busch Stadium.
The Orlando Devil Rays stopped the St. Louis Cardinals, 11-7, behind an impressive performance from Brian Jordan. The two-time All-Star made life miserable for St. Louis pitching. He was 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Orlando reliever Rich Garces was the winner. His record is now 4-2. Francisco Cordova took the loss.
Orlando needed the clutch hitting of Jose Valentin to notch the win. The shortstop hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Devil Rays on top, 11-7. For the game, Valentin had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"If it's down the middle," said Jordan, "you might as well hit it."
The Devil Rays bumped their record to 79-73 with this latest triumph.
