Royals Walk Off with 9-8 Win
|
Royals third baseman Tim Naehring put his stamp on his team's 9-8 win over the Cincinnati Reds. Naehring went 3-3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice for Kansas City in the contest. Kansas City reliever Armando Benitez picked up the win, upping his record to 2-4. Allan Anderson was saddled with the loss. Kansas City goes to 92-59. The win puts them 2½ games up in their division.
One of the stars of the game was Kansas City right fielder Orlando Merced. In the bottom of the tenth with two out, he got a fastball from Doug Henry and hit a walk-off run-scoring single. That made the score 9-8 in favor of the Royals.
"This joint was rocking," said Merced.
