Chicago played host to Cincinnati at the friendly confines of Wrigley Field.

The Cubs had to overcome a fine effort from Cincinnati pitcher Mike Mussina to grab a narrow 2-1 win at Wrigley Field. Mussina went 8 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Mike Dunne picked up the win with 7.1 innings of work. He allowed 1 earned run on 4 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 3. On the season, he is now 4-7.

The Cubs got a big at-bat from first baseman Mike Piazza. For the game, Piazza was 2-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 39th home run of the season gave Chicago a 2-1 lead.
