Sheffield Helps Mets Run Win Streak to 5
The New York Mets topped the Seattle Pilots, 12-6, in United League action at Shea Stadium. The player of the game was New York shortstop Gary Sheffield. The Mets, at 86-66, have now won 5 straight.

Sheffield contributed a productive at-bat in the bottom of the third. With runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit a 3-run home run. It was one at-bat among others that helped New York get the win.

Sheffield said afterward that the win gets the team one step closer to its goal.
